I have always loved the freedom of being outdoors, during challenging times throughout my life I have found myself craving this more. Nature provides a calming element, clarity to my thoughts and fosters a sense of belonging. Renowned biologist E.O Wilson states humans have an innate desire to connect with nature and other living beings. The relationship of humans and the natural world is as ancient as humans themselves. As we we disconnect and devalue the natural world we are beginning notice the detrimental impact it is having to our physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Over the past 40 years across the world various research papers have shown that time spent in nature has a positive impact on our mental health, making it an ideal therapeutic setting. Hestia Wild Therapy offers an alternative to conventional therapy by working outside with nature.
Providing 1-2-1 therapy in natural environments. I am a qualified counsellor, and an accredited Wilderness Therapist with additional training in working with children and young people. I have over 5 years experience working therapeutically in nature with both adults and young people on a one to one basis and group settings. From a person centred perspective I facilitate a safe non judgmental space allowing you to reconnect with your self and nature. Like nature people thrive in the right environment. There are many elements of the natural world which are reflected in our own and can be used to help us through challenging times.
People often report when they have immersed themselves in natural environments they feel a sense of being met at a profound level. They will talk about experiencing a new level of acceptance and belonging.
Early into my therapeutic training I recognised that I wanted to take my practice outside. I have built up knowledge, understanding and awareness in the area, creating a solid foundation enabling me to ethically work therapeutically in nature. This includes the following:
